Taking place January 16-17 is Marca by BolognaFiere 2024, an event that promises to exceed all expectations. We are talking about the only Italian event that unites MDD (acronym for Marca Del Distributore) producers of food and non-food sections with the main modern distribution chains. In collaboration with ADM – Associazione Distribuzione Moderna and with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Bologna Chamber of Commerce, the event confirms itself as a reference point for high-quality business, partnership building and the generation of unique opportunities for all players in the sector.
Marca by BolognaFiere 2024: the numbers for the 20th edition.
More than 1,000 exhibitors will flock to the 7 pavilions and 26,000 square meters of net floor space, up 22 percent from last year. They will be joined by the leading names in organized modern distribution and members of the event’s Technical Scientific Committee.
With more than 800 companies present in Bologna with novelties and trendy products, food occupies a prominent role as always. A role also confirmed by the space reserved for fresh and very fresh products by Marca Fresh
The non-food area is growing, with 250 exhibitors attending. Well represented in this area are home care and personal care products, with a focus on sustainability and efficacy issues.
Attention was also paid to solutions related to packaging, services and logistics. Excellent results in this regard for Marca Tech, which will celebrate its first 10 years this year.
Marca by BolognaFiere 2024: the key role of MDD
With a record total turnover of 25.4 billion euros in 2023, MDD products account for 31.5 percent of the entire turnover of the Italian retail market, including discounters, while in 2019 it was at 28.3 percent. This is stated by the analysis “Distributor Brand and Made in Italy: the role of Modern Distribution” carried out by The European House – Ambrosetti for ADM – Modern Distribution Association, which will be presented at the opening conference of the event on January 16 at Marca by BolognaFiere 2024 https://www.marca.bolognafiere.it/home/1348.html and which, for the first time, also takes into consideration the discount segment.
Among the segments, organic is the one where private label has the greatest impact, accounting for 46.7 percent of total sales (up 6.8 percent on the previous year) and more than 800 million euros in value.
The Free From segment is also enjoying the interest of the end consumer with the private label boasting value sales of more than 51 million for gluten-free (+22.6 percent), about 83.5 million for sugar-free products (+37.1 percent), and nearly 140 million for milk- or lactose-free (+40.9 percent).
Data put highlighting the ability of private label to meet consumer demand by offering quality products that, above all, reflect the needs of consumers.
