On Jan. 22, Pope Francis received in private audience the members and more than 100 wine producers and representatives of the sector associations of Veronafiere and Vinitaly 2024 www.veronafiere.it , which will take place April 9-11. The meeting took place on the occasion of “The Economy of Francis and the World of Italian Wine,” promoted by Veronafiere-Vinitaly in collaboration with the Diocese of Verona and the support of Banca Generali and Generali Italia, through the Cattolica business unit.
Veronafiere and Vinitaly 2024: an important reality both in Italy and in the world
“Wine, the earth, farming skills and entrepreneurial activity are gifts from God. But let us not forget that the Creator has entrusted them to us, to our sensibility and honesty, so that we may make them, as Scripture says, a true source of joy for the heart of man and of every man, not only those who have more opportunities. Thank you then for choosing to inspire your activity with sentiments of concord, help to the weakest and respect for Creation, following the example of Francis of Assisi,” the Pontiff stressed during his speech.
More attention to environment, habits, work
In his opening greeting to Veronafiere and Vinitaly 2024, Pope Francis also pointed out that: “In terms of the number of companies involved, the quality of production and the impact on employment, yours is certainly a significant reality, both on the Italian and international wine scene, and it is therefore good that you find yourselves reflecting together on the ethical aspects and moral responsibilities that all this entails, and that in this you draw inspiration from the Poverello of Assisi. The fundamental lines along which you have chosen to move – concern for the environment, work and healthy consumer habits – point to an attitude focused on respect, at various levels. And respect, in your work, is certainly fundamental: for a quality product, in fact, the application of industrial techniques and commercial logic is not enough; the land, the vine, the processes of cultivation, fermentation and aging require constancy, require attention and require patience.”
The president of Veronafiere and Vinitaly 2024 https://www.vinitaly.com/, Federico Bricolo: “We reaffirm our commitment with Vinitaly to preserve and enhance the oenological heritage of our community, so that wine continues to be an element of social cohesion and openness to dialogue, inspiring a conviviality that unites.”
