Aefi Dicembre 2023, the leading association for the Italian trade fair system, has reappointed Maurizio Danese, who also holds the position of Veronafiere’s CEO, as president. He will be joined by vice presidents Simona Rapastella, Antonio Bruzzone, Maurizio Renzo Ermeti and Renato Pujatti.
The decision was made Dec. 5 during the association’s assembly, after also electing the new board of directors.
Appointed members included Antonio Bruzzone (BolognaFiere), Maurizio Renzo Ermeti (Italian exhibition group), Pietro Piccinetti (Sicilia Fiera), Renzo Piraccini (president Cesena Fiera) and Renato Pujatti (Pordenone Fiere) in the “exhibition districts” category. For the “organizers” category, Brenda Bellei (White), Simona Rapastella (FederUnacoma-Eima) and Silvio Viale (Turin International Book Fair).

Aefi Dicembre 2023: trade fairs carrier of made in Italy

Commenting on his re-election, Maurizio Danese stressed that his second term looks less complicated, compared to the first one characterized by the pandemic and the consequent halt to the entire trade fair system. “Today Aefi is relaunching its mission, strengthening the unified representation of the exhibition industry. At the same time, it will work with the government for an acceleration on the front of events organized abroad and increasingly opening the membership to organizers of large events.”
Evidence of this is the growth in new members. In fact, in addition to 40 of Italy’s leading trade fair districts, 13 event organizers representing different sectors of the made-in-Italy industry have been added.

Aefi Dicembre 2023: a growing market

According to Aefi, 2023 will come to a close for the Italian trade fairs sector with the prospect of hooking up to 2019 numbers set for 2024. It is in fact 9.64 million square meters of exhibition space used this year. That is 10 percent more than 2022 but still 10 percent less than 2019.
Nearly 125 thousand trade fair exhibitors and about 18 million visitors, up from last year (+20%) but also compared to the 2019 benchmark (+4%), showing how the trade fair b2b confirms itself as a key lever for the Italian business.
Data from Aefi Dicembre 2023 https://www.aefi.it/it/, confirm that there were 531 events between domestic (264) and international (267). Among the latter, the sectors of textiles, clothing, fashion (53 fairs) stand out, followed by food, beverages, hospitality (42), sports, arts, entertainment (38) and industry, technology, mechanics (30).
According to Prometeia’s 2022 survey, Italy’s trade fair system – 2nd in Europe and 4th in the world – is a business multiplier, with an impact on territories quantifiable at 22.5 billion euros a year.
It is also an important driver in terms of trade fair tourism, whose value calculated by Prometeia exceeds 10 billion euros a year, equal to an added value of 4.8 billion euros.
