Arte Fiera edition 2024 will take place in Bologna from February 2 to 4, with a preview on February 1. It will be a special event because it celebrates the first 50 years of the event. And for the occasion, the thread of one of the most successful editions of recent years, the 2023 edition, considered as the one of rebirth, rewarded by collectors, back to pre-pandemic attendance, will be picked up.
The location of the last edition is reconfirmed (Halls 25 and 26, considered among the most elegant in the Bologna fairgrounds and traditionally associated with the fair). Also confirmed are the collaborations, starting with the one between artistic director Simone Menegoi and Enea Righi, manager and collector of international level, in the role of director of operations.
What’s new in the 2024 edition
A total of 196 exhibitors will participate in Arte Fiera edition 2024. Noteworthy is the return of several galleries, while the Main Section, divided as always between historicized and contemporary art, will be joined by three curated, invitation-only sections. Namely, Photography and Moving Images; Pittura XXI; and Multiples, which features works in editions, ranging from artist’s books to auteur design.
Davide Ferri, critic and independent curator, is confirmed to curate Pittura XXI, while Photography and Moving Images is entrusted again in 2024 for the second year to Giangavino Pazzola, curator of Camera – Centro italiano per la fotografia (Turin).
New instead for Multipli, which sees the arrival of art critic and historian Alberto Salvadori.
Another novelty of Arte Fiera edition 2024 consists in the return of Percorso. Not a section proper but, as the title indicates, an itinerary that connects a certain number of stands in the Main section according to a thematic criterion, which will be drawing, a transversal and universal language that unites artists of different generations and languages.
Luisa Lambri to create the unpublished work
Since 2019 Arte Fiera has commissioned an established Italian artist each year to create an unpublished work to be presented in the context of the fair. Opus Novum – this is the name of the series of commissions – has so far seen Flavio Favelli (2019), Eva Marisaldi (2020), Stefano Arienti (2021), Liliana Moro (2022), and Alberto Garutti (2023) try their hand.
The 2024 commission goes to Luisa Lambri, one of the most internationally appreciated Italian artists working with the language of photography.
The collaboration between Arte Fiera 2024 edition https://www.artefiera.it and Fondazione Furla for performance is also renewed. Curating the live action program for the 2024 edition will be Bruna Roccasalva, artistic director of the foundation.
Also returning is the collaboration with Mutina, a brand of ceramics signed by the world’s leading designers, which will be present with a special project to be revealed soon.
