On 25 July, the shareholders’ meeting of Assopellettieri 2023.24 appointed Claudia Sequi as new president. 55 years old, Florentine, vice president of the Pelletterie Claudia company, the entrepreneur – who has already been on the general council for several years – assumes the role for the two-year period 2023/2024, replacing Franco Gabbrielli, at the helm of the association belonging to Confindustria and Confindustria Fashion from 2019.

The programmatic lines

The first woman to preside over the association, Sequi has drawn the lines that will guide her mandate.
Among the main themes are training, sustainability, internationalisation, dialogue with institutions. And above all, attention and the right amount of space to all three souls of Made in Italy leather goods: luxury brands, SMEs, manufacturers.
All these topics will be explored during the “Stati Generali della Pelletteria Italiana”, organized by Assopellettieri 2023.24 with the support of The European House of Ambrosetti and scheduled for 17 October in Florence.
The new president has appointed four vice presidents, each of whom will represent the various souls of Assopellettieri.
The team will be composed by Stefania Orselli, Global People & Labor Law Industrial-Relations Director of Gucci, who will deal with relations with institutions and trade unions, Stefano Giacomelli, CEO of Tivoli Group, representing the major producers for the brands. Riccardo Braccialini, CEO of Pelletteria Fiorentina Montecristo, will deal with relations with Confindustria and Confindustria Moda, while Carlo Briccola, Plant Director of the Bric’s Valigeria Fine plant in Olgiate Comasco, will be a point of reference for young entrepreneurs and the Travel sector.

Assopellettieri 2023.24: the next appointments

Several appointments await the new president. First of all Mipel 2023, at Fiera Milano Rho from 17 to 20 September with the presentation of the SS24 collections.
Furthermore, this time in Milan, Mipel Lab will also return from 19 to 21 September, sharing spaces with Lineapelle in Pavilion 9 as usual. The physical exhibition format is reserved for the excellence of Italian leather goods that develop collections and produce for luxury brands and designers.

The trend for the coming months

The macro-numbers for Assopellettieri 2023.24 https://assopellettieri.it/ are encouraging. In fact, data from the Confindustria Moda Study Center confirms that the first part of the year ended with important results.
There are 3 billion euros generated by exports in the first quarter of 2023 (+12.6% on January-March 2022) and a positive balance of 2.1 billion euros (+18.6% on January-March 2022).
However, the data relating to industrial production (-2.3% in the first 3 months and sharply down in April and May), the less brilliant order intake and the expectations of entrepreneurs, marked by caution, cast shadows on the trend in the months ahead come.
Also due to a difficult context, where inflationary dynamics (with the consequent increase in costs), growing international tensions (almost a year and a half after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine) and the less vigor of world trade make growth more fragile and put corporate balance sheets at risk.
