The protagonist of Klimahouse Bolzano 2023, at Fiera Bolzano from 8 to 11 March, will be wood. Among the undisputed protagonists of the international event, a point of reference for the renovation and energy efficiency in the building sector, this material is increasingly appreciated.
Italy third European producer of wooden houses
According to data from the 7th Report on Wooden Buildings, released by the FederlegnoArredo Study Center on behalf of Assolegno, green building in wood continues to make progress. Certainly it is the single and two-family units more than the large multi-storey buildings that use wood in their construction, suitable for urban contexts. However, the trend reversal is there, albeit still timid.
However, the fact remains that in 2021 this construction segment recorded a value of almost 1.8 billion euros. With Italy the third European producer of wooden houses, after Germany and Switzerland, recording a +33% vs 2020.
There were 3,400 new housing units built in 2021, with a trend towards the construction of works characterized by increasing engineering complexity. Furthermore, if the regions where the majority of wooden houses are concentrated are above all in the North (Lombardy in the lead, followed by Trentino, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Marche), the phenomenon is spreading throughout Italy.
Klimahouse Bolzano 2023: the future of building and living
Thursday 9 March in the afternoon the focus will be on the Klimahouse Wood Summit, a meeting on the Klimahouse Stage, organized in collaboration with Spazi Inclusi. At the center is the future of building and living.
The summit was opened by Vittorio Salvadori, Business Development Manager at CREE Buildings, who developed a prefabricated wood-concrete system for the construction of large buildings. His task is to provide an overview of the wood supply chain at an international and Italian level.
The Wood Summit will also be an opportunity to award the winners of the Wood Architecture Prize. Set up by Fiera Bolzano in collaboration with the Polytechnic of Turin and the Iuav of Venice, it aims to promote a new culture of building.
An award for wooden architecture
At Klimahouse Bolzano 2023 www.klimahouse.it there are three categories of interest for recognition and a special mention to the most promising young talent under 35: architectures built on private initiative with functional connotations; architectures on public initiative with any intended use; experimental architectures that include innovative prototypes, modules resulting from design research and temporary installations.
Sixty-four nominations from all over Italy, corresponding to as many completed works. Many proposals of a residential nature, but also tertiary and experimental projects, which innovate in the construction technique and in the type of materials used. The designers and works that win the prize will be protagonists of the Waiting for Klimahouse Wood Summit 2024 and other events organized or participated in by Fiera Bolzano, in synergy with the world of wood.
