From 28 January to 5 February in the Magazzini del Cotone from the Old Port of Genoa Antiqua 2023 will take place, the 2nd market exhibition of ancient art. The guideline of this edition will be the sea.
In fact, in the year in which the Ligurian capital is preparing to host Ocean Race – The Grand Finale, the arrival of one of the most iconic regattas in the world of sailing, the event will have as its common thread all the forms of art that they are inspired by the sea.
That is, vintage maps and globes, models, instruments, equipment and on-board furnishings, portraits of sailing ships and steamers, silverware and jewellery.

The partnerships

In addition to the antique dealers present, who will bring themed works to Antiqua 2023, the organizers are preparing to present some special sections created in collaboration with important museums and cultural institutions in the city. Like the Maritime Museum of Navigation, the Modern Art Gallery of the Nervi Museums, the BPER Banca with some pieces from the Banca Carige collection.
Furthermore, the holders of the entrance ticket to the event will be entitled to a reduced price ticket at the Museum of the Sea and Navigation and vice versa.

One step away from the historic center

Antiqua 2023 will be divided, as per tradition, into high period furnishings, sculptures, carpets, paintings starting from the seventeenth century with a focus on Ligurian painting of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. And yet silver and jewels, wooden and marble sculptures, ceramics, artistic glass, books and prints.
Among the furnishings on display are a three-drawer chest of drawers with a heart motif, Genoese Barocchetto, from the mid-18th century, from the same period and also of Genoese manufacture, a double body or Louis XV trumeau with a wavy shape with four-leaf clovers, coping in copper, and a double-topped Louis XIV card table in rosewood and violwood.
From Venice comes a Louis XIV trumeau decorated in poor art from the early 18th century, the rounded chest of drawers in walnut from the 18th century are Lombard.
The strategic location of Antiqua 2023 – that of the Porto Antico easily accessible by various means – creates a connection with the historic center and the main sites of artistic interest in Genoa. This allows you to fully immerse yourself in the heart of the city and its cultural offer.
