On April 27, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Excise Agency, Customs and Monopoly ADM and Fiera Milano regarding the fight against counterfeiting and the protection of Made in Italy. The aim is to promote opportunities to meet and raise awareness of safe and informed purchases. Suffice it to say that according to data from Indicam, the turnover of counterfeiting in Italy is worth over 12 billion euros, with damage to companies of 935 million and to the treasury of over 10 billion.

The agreement aims to synergistically develop new forms of collaboration to spread knowledge of intellectual property rights protection tools among sector operators.

Furthermore, it provides opportunities for discussion and support on customs procedures in the international trade fair sector and to provide companies with the most suitable information in relation to regulations, simplifications and customs facilities provided for by law. Activities aimed at facilitating the correct circulation of goods in international trade and promoting economic growth.
In this way, the synergy between ADM and Fiera Milano www.fieramilano.it is intensified, already present in the spaces of the Rho exhibition center with its own operational section, which every day carries out the activities falling within its institutional mission.

A completely counterfeit Ferrari

On the occasion of the signing of the protocol, a temporary museum space was inaugurated in the foyer of the Fiera Milano Service Center in Rho where ADM has granted a completely counterfeit car on display. This is a rough reproduction of a 1958 yellow Ferrari Dino 196 S. Instrumentation, steering wheel, seats, interior: nothing complies, not even the wheelbase-length and height dimensions are those of the original. As well as the materials used.

This exhibition space represents an opportunity for reflection for the entire trade fair sector and the opportunity to increasingly integrate interventions in defense of industrial property during trade fairs.

In fact, pending the development of the process in Parliament, following the approval by the CdM of the bill revising the Industrial Property Code which also contemplates the temporary protection of designs and models in the context of trade fairs, CFI – Industry Fairs Committee https://cfionline.net/ has launched a project that provides timely and direct information on the services that the Ministry for Economic Development (through its Directorate General for the Fight against Counterfeiting) offers on the subject of protection of industrial property rights.

During the meeting ADM and Fiera Milano Luca Palermo, CEO and general manager of Fiera Milano, underlined how: “The trade in counterfeit products is one of the most significant illegal phenomena that small and medium-sized enterprises have to deal with, especially those who invest in creativity, innovation and research. The memorandum of understanding we signed with ADM represents a further tool to support the 36 thousand companies that we host every year in our exhibition spaces “. He concluded by saying that: “The partnership also supports a series of services that we offer to our exhibitors at the Fair. Such as the possibility of using a specific Intellectual Property Service, a protection desk, which allows immediate action to protect intellectual property rights that are damaged or threatened during an event “.
