Macfrut 2020 widens the boundaries and in its 37th edition will host Spice & herbs Global Expo. A unique event in the European exhibition landscape that, for the first time, focuses attention on product categories of extreme interest for the global market. One of the many novelties of Macfrut 2020, which this year debuts on Tuesday (May 5), to close on May 7 at the Expo Center in Rimini.

To confirm the centrality of the focus and other novelties, Macfrut 2020 and Ismea present a Observatory on spices and medicinal herbs to offer updated analysis of the economic and structural scenario of the sector, both at national and international level, in order to identify the main actors and trends in place.

The spice industry is extremely dynamic in the global market, which is worth more than $6 billion for spices alone, with the single segment of bio growing constantly to the tune of $1 billion. In addition to this are medicinal and aromatic herbs, a market of great interest for Italy which produces 25 million kilos of products with 6,200 companies involved and over 24,000 hectares cultivated, more than tripled only between 2013 and 2016. Italy is also the world’s leading user of medicinal herbs for the cosmetics sector, a rapidly growing sector.

Three areas in which will articulate the new salon of Macfrut 2020, beginning with that of the spices, organized in collaboration with Cannamela, marginal in our country on the productive front but strongly dynamic thanks to the increasing diffusion in Europe of the international ethnic cuisines and to the demand of health and well-being throughout the West with the discovery of ginger and turmeric.

The second area is dedicated to medicinal herbs, in collaboration with the Italian Federation of Medicinal Plant Producers and Assoerbe, which include a wide category of plant species, ranging from medicinal plants, to aromatics up to perfume.

The third area is that of aromatics, which already occupy a significant space within Macfrut 2020, with an even more central role thanks to the salon. This area is realized in collaboration with Unaproa (National Union between the Producers’ Organizations of fruit and vegetables, citrus and nuts).
